A stagnant mind

Is pliable to manipulation 

Instead be...

a bird that learns to fly

A hateful heart

Is devoid of its humanity 

Instead be...

a bird that learns to sing

An unloved soul 

Is rife with pessimistic cynicism 

Instead be...

a bird that flocks with many

For to be our greater selves

the wings we gain...

must be earned.

A very nice exhortation here, Carlos. It is well to encourage people to seek their best selves. But there is a lot of negativity in the air now, a lot. Perhaps we need to read pieces like this one over and over, because the current darkness is long and deep.

Thank you JB for your comment on this poem. I totally agree with your statement. Dwelling too much on the negative things in life can stunt the mind. Lock it into a dark place that makes things difficult to move past from. Writing for me has always for the most part been cathartic and in many ways healing. Like any other writer I yearn to say something good that can profoundly change a single life or make a difference. To instill hope or the possibility thereof. This little piece of writing gave me just that in a time of need. Thank you again my friend. CLE

Thank you so much Chris for your kind words on this piece I truly appreciate it. I wrote this a few months back putting it off to the side and didn't think much until I was reminded by reading the poem I mentioned in my author's note. I remember being inspired by the sound of a bird singing outside my bedroom window one morning. I was feeling a bit down at the time when suddenly I hear this melodic chirping. It simply made me smile. And I wished my life could be as simple as a bird singing in a bush. A song that simply makes the world smile. So I wrote these words down and put them off to the side as I do most of the things I write. Reviewing on occasion until I feel they make sense or have a semblance of a strong message. I'm glad I was reminded of this one and will be going back to my tablet to review other older unfinished works. Thank you so much again for sharing your thoughts with me.
