Left Behind

Left Behind

A Poem by marcie

Sitting in your ivory tower

tell me what you see

Surveying perfection all around

No room for the likes of me

Let me tell you how things will be

Now your judgements passed

I will try to remain dignified

though my composure has turned to glass

He isn't quite the monster

Like the prosecution said

He the one who made up stories

As he tucked his children up in bed

The media will play its part

Glorifying all the facts

Providing gossip in the community

Giving play-ground bullies chance to act

An empty bed and an aching heart

Are all i have to show

For a moment of stupidity

Committed long ago

So keep your rose tinted glasses

Grasp them, hold them tight

Dont spare a thought for those thats left behind

Then unlike me you may sleep tonight

At last a poem about spouses or partners, lovers etc. that I like! Look! There is so much going on here. So much perception, analysis, calculation, rage, loss. It is all there and written with a snarl. I loved its defiance and the rising pride. No sentimental slush here just fascinating dash in gritty ghost train. Yippee for Marcie.

The dichotomous feelings and thoughts of the narrator are well captured here. No-one can prescribe to the narrator of this poem how he/she should feel: but I am inclined to agree with Ed Hart.
Must have taken a lot to write this, especially from this perspective.

this is so sad...but so well written. I love this verse...

So keep your rose tinted glasses
Grasp them, hold them tight
Dont spare a thought for those thats left behind
Then unlike me you may sleep tonight

A good poem

so sad , somethimes those who should put in jail, are the ones that get the peomotions, and the victims left behind...

a sad story...i love the last verse - a lot - because it's universal, it can be applied to anything. Anything at all. It rings with caution and indifference and bitterness.

So keep your rose tinted glasses
Grasp them, hold them tight
Dont spare a thought for those thats left behind
Then unlike me you may sleep tonight

A very good poem.

(thank you for your kind review, by the way!)

You are good. This is so well arranged and dont make me want to look to the end to see when i am going to be spared continued reading of it!! I hate to say it but my attention span and patience can only handle so much dribble.....but your writes are expertly done and make reading a pleasure. :0)

Oh Marcie, if this is based on fact, how tragic.. and if not, no matter because each line tells its own story.

There seems to be quite a horror involved in this, bearing in mind you mention 'prosecution' and that alone makes the poem raw.

Each verse has its touch but this one especially: 'He isn't quite the monster Like the prosecution said He the one who made up stories As he tucked his children up in bed '

Another very fine poem
