INT. - WITCHER'S BEDROOM - EARLY EVENING

A group of five kids sit around in a circle in a smoky room passing around cigarettes. Polly's eyes guide us through the room. It looks like it smells, like cigarettes, that one new song by New Politics, Atlas is pouring vodka into a watermelon. Inaudible talking and laughing fills the room. Suddenly, headlights of a car outside flood the room highlighting the posters on Witcher's bedrooom wall. The conversation stops for a moment and the kids hold their breath until the car eventually just uses their driveway to turn.

AMBROSE
Jesus Christ I thought that was your parents.

WITCHER
(sarcastically)
We all know I don't have parents. Or maybe I
do I'm not even really sure where are they?

PHOENIX (THROUGH THEIR CIGARETTE)
You're parents are great shut up

WITCHER
Yeah, I mean their okay its just their never
home.

ATLAS
(laughing to himself, he thinks he's funny)
And your moms hot

WITCHER gags and fake vomits. The other kids laugh.

ATLAS
Its true and you know it!

PHOENIX
God, you're so immature.

ATLAS
Oh, princess, everyone knows you're my
number one.

ATLAS fills the watermelon and takes a big gulp of vodka, drinking the rest

PHOENIX
You wish!

ATLAS
God, you're so feisty I love--

The room seems to pause in time and Polly starts to speak.

POLLY (V.O.)
Don't be worried Atlas flirts with everyone and
it's like a joke kind of. This was the first night in
a long time that I'd been out in about a week since
we went to my aunt's funeral. She died of drug
overdose and I wasn't really surprised about it I was
almost even happy because I was afraid she wasn't
okay with her life and death would be some sort of
salvation for her. I'm happy to be out again. I loved
everyone in Witcher's room that night and it was warm
outside. If we had been younger I would've suggested
we go out and ride around town on our bikes.

Polly is suddenly awoken from spacing out by hearing PHONIX say her name.

PHONIX
Polly, truth or dare?

POLLY
truth.

PHONIX
hmm... tell us about the weirdest thing
you're into

All the kids laugh besides ATLAS who is trying to draw their attention.

ATLAS
Hey hey hey!

The laughter dies down so the kids pay attention to what Atlas is saying.

ATLAS
You all might be laughing but it's always
the quiet ones! Lemme tell you its always
the quiet ones.

A chatter of agreement arises among the kids.

POLLY
(nervously)
I dunno. I'd have sex with someone I
don't really know that well.

Everyone stops to think about what Polly said. ATLAS laughs. POLLY can't tell if it's at her response or at something he thought of. PHOENIX takes a gulp out of ATLAS'S vodka watermelon.

PHOENIX
PSSSH that's it? There must be
something more you're willing to
admit.

The room is engulfed in silence and anticipation, perhaps she's willing to admit more. After a second or two ATLAS speaks.

ATLAS
You don't really seem like the casual sex
type. You'd go home and write a poem, stalk
their social media, take a nap, write a poem--

POLLY
(somewhat sarcastically)
I could totally be the casual sex type
I don't know what you're talking about.

ATLAS
Hey! Don't take it personally I could never
do it either. I'm a poet, f****r.

PHOENIX
Notice how we always hear about how you're
deep and an artist and a poet but you never
share your poems or art with us...hm?

PHOENIX pauses.

PHOENIX
And you can be deep and f**k everyone
at the same time. Like yours truly.

PHOENIX
Anyway, next. *PAUSE* Atlas, truth or dare

straight cut

INT - WITCHER'S ROOF - AFTER MIDNIGHT

Its warm for it being this late in the middle of October. The kids look up at the stars.

ATLAS
Its freaky to know this is our last
year together.

PHOENIX
Yeah, I mean its real fucked up that
the school system made us grow together
I feel like we're a cluster of five trees
and our trunks have grown into each other
but at the same time leaving people is
never really as hard as it seems. And I'm
super excited to meet new people in New York

ATLAS stands up and positions his arms and fingers in a way that mocks a tree twirling the clouds around his fingers.

PHOENIX
(to ATLAS)
You're high.

ATLAS
Higher than SR-17

ATLAS laughs at his own joke.
AMBROSE
(staring at the sky)
Look at the sky I mean around one
of those stars theres probably with
aliens and their looking at us and
we're looking at them and their asking
one another if they believe in aliens.
Like we're the aliens here.

EVERYONE stops to think about what Ambrose said.
PHOENIX
(staring at the sky sounding happily dazed)
I don't believe in aliens

WITCHER
(almost angrily)
How can you not believe in aliens
there are more stars in the universe
than grains of sand--

PHOENIX
(cutting him off)
The idea scares me

WITCHER
I thought you weren't afraid of anything

PHOENIX (PUTTING HER HANDS TO THE STARS)
I'm either scared of nothing or everything
I haven't decided yet.

POLLY
(IN SOLILOQUY)
This night had been wonderful the kind
of night that I'll look back on with
nostalgia when I'm cynical and will be
saved by it. I never thought
