brave and strong

brave and strong

A Poem by Avery CompassionRose

my knuckles, still black and blue

you didn't know your words hurt me, too

words.

words that lack empathy, emotionless

you didn't care if I lay alone, motionless

---

be Brave; be Strong

words you've told me all along

but how can I be brave

if it is myself I have to save

and how can I be strong

if it is you I have been fighting for so long

---

how can I fight for what I believe is right

when I am told to sit tight, see the light

---

you see, when people are oppressed,

they start to become depressed.

but then they up rise,

there's a turn in the tide

and you're just along for the ride.

---

how can I up rise

if you are still putting me down

how can I act civilized

when you view me as a clown.

---

how can I be brave

when it is myself I have to save.

and how can I be strong

when it is myself I have been fighting for so long.

---

but my words, much like me, are powerless

against this evil world, so merciless.
