The red string

The red string

A Poem by Mira

The lies piled up like stubborn walls

Round the imprisoned truth I held.

Laughter cried from beyond the bars,

Wondering where it failed.

The hand I held,

The eyes I saw,

Now floated in the misty snow

As mirages adorned the road.

The steps that were meant to be taken in pride,

Are taken in shame and sorrow.

The tight little bond

With the right amount of promises

Got loosened with the beat of time,

The stranded strings lay bare

And strangled the love I cared.

Excellent imagery in this offering about a relationship headed south. Not sure whether the cause of this breakup took the speaker by surprise or from an admission of the truth after much denial. Either way, the deep pain comes across sharply. Condolences don't help much, but sometimes it is better to let go and be open to change.
