Bobby Pins

Bobby Pins

A Poem by Molly D
"

First attempt at a villanelle.

"

I do not know where the bobby pins go,
like socks, gone forever, they disappear;
somewhere collections of bobby pins grow.

Gathering under desks with friends in tow,
into impossible corners of a bathroom, destination unclear,
I do not know where the bobby pins go.

Sixty strong, a new pack, all in a row,
newly anxious to lose them, a renewed batch of fear,
somewhere collections of bobby pins grow.

I keep them in my purse in an attempt to stow
the pins in one place; I'll hope to find them here,
I do not know where the bobby pins go.

Are they hiding in pockets? Impossible to know,
in drawers, makeup cases, pen cups, under cans of beer,
somewhere collections of bobby pins grow.

My hair is down, no style to show,
limp and straight without a stylish half-sphere.
I do not know where the bobby pins go;
somewhere collections of bobby pins grow.

Villanelles are becoming popular! Absolutely love what you've written here... A seemingly ordinary thing takes on such a depth and mystery, wrapped around your life and all those moments that fill our days... Amazing write!
