Anguish of Mind

Anguish of Mind

A Poem by Melody Telleria

Laughter dances lightly on the shimmering roll of waves,

thunderous crashing against rocks so jagged with sorrow

and etched with memories that wither away,

shriveling back into the damp graves of earth,

like sun-starved flowers of apologies that beg for more tomorrows.

Diamond tears flow down waning cheeks thieved

of the healthy glow that once sang melodies

and shone through sparkling brown eyes.

Time has ripped away the beauty of her dreams

that carried a once tender soul through harsh

realities so eager to stifle her will to fantasize.

Rhythmless whispers weave through the air,

unseen hands stroke chillingly, reminders of the painful reality

that loneliness lingers heavily. Closing her eyes she dares to believe

that lyrical voices still sing in harmony

of hope and fulfillment of her hearts yearnings.

Losing herself in the rut and struggle of building

her identity in a world were who you really are

isn't who you're supposed to be if you wish to survive in mediocrity.

Anguish of mind, like flames of blue fire lashing on naked skin,

extinguishing truth she wishes to find.

Cloak of invisibly is the magic that plays charades of true character.

She embraces the cold that washes over her

like winter chilled waters of black, raging seas.

She is reminiscent of past awareness and sharpness

of a finely tuned mind, now facing shipwrecks and drowning pleas.

Alone at night she climbs mountains with heavy,

snow capped mounds threatening to avalanche.

Swallowing back tears under the bed sheets,

growing up scared to disappoint others all her life,

now realizing disappointing herself was all that ever mattered,

she's battle scarred by inner strife.

Tracing the passing hours with tired fingertips,

the taste of adventure lazily resides in shadows

dancing gracefully in the pockets of her mind.
Gentle kisses trace their way down my warm, flushed skin,

phantom lover that accepts and spurs the will for freedom of my tragic kind.

Its hard to know what bothers us the most - as time continues and we change to reflect our now over our yesterdays. But in the end I guess our minds always wish we had "company" on our ways.
