Infliction

Infliction

A Poem by Michael Giles

You were there - with me.
Only the two of us.
My mind stopped running,
making the heart beat.
Faster.

As seconds flew.
Hugged me tight.
Crying.
Never lost hold off me.

Then you spoke,
love wasn't meant for you...

and him...

That brought me restless.
Off limits.
Barely touching you.

It's okay, you're only feeling the way I feel when you left me.
Hurt. Broken.

Friends. Again, just us.
With nothing to worry about.

No plan of leaving you out,
the manner you imposed in front of me.

Twas as if, you told me that I have to move on,
and now you have to. It's your turn.

But remember?

Just with that slightest touch.

The weakness I felt in you gave way for me to grab you back,
and grant my heart the longing.

For this time, you're my greatest possession.

No.
I'm scared.
I might just be loving,
again the very you,
who's not destined for me.

You're tired. I know.

Owner of my heart,
all I can do is to serve as your heart's refuge.
That hug.
Could just be something for your heart to heal.

But then again,
'twas likely heaven for me.
Cause you never did that,
despite everything I lent you.

Now, it's your comfort.
Letting me know I exist in your sight,
that I can wipe your sadness away...
Even just a bit.

You're not alone.
I'll be with you for the rest of time.
