Hush, my patriarch

A Poem by Nicole Currie

A forked tongue wriggling in baited breath,

As she shed bonds,

Unnecessary snake skin,

Patriarchal yes.

But with streaming eyes he mourns for, ‘hedonism, hedonism!’

And together they watched                 a melting moon,

Pouring bright liquid into their lidless eyes,

Until it flickered in Summer’s sweaty palm like an old film,

Playing over and over again.
