A Poem For You

Everything I do is for you 

Every breath is a prayer, every step is a sacrifice 

If it is not dedicated to you then it is in spite of you

Watch me love you or watch me hate you

Either way, I am still asking you to watch

Even your absence is a crushing presence

I wish you would just make a decision, save me or kill me

Nurse me back to health or put me out of my misery, just don’t be a bystander as I gasp for air like roadkill

I hate that I need you to remind me that I am alive 

I want to feel it for myself

I want to know it on my own

I want to be certain I am human without having to spill blood to prove it

I want to be able to stop writing poems about you and still feel like I have something to say

The roadkill line is so significant.
Our hearts spill blood and we wish for the one we love to put that tourniquet on it....but some just walk away...not even a nod.
