Happiness is...(?)

This is just an article. Not a story.

Well, to start off, I'm quite sure anyone who is reading this has pondered endlessly about the definition of happiness. And I, in all humbleness, feel a deep urge to try to express my own opinion regarding this topic. Everyone is born different, which is known to all. Everyone has a different destiny and distinct paths to take along his journey. Making this super common conception a base to start with, I shall now come to the significant points I want to stress. Despite all of these myriad dissimilarities in various measures, happiness remains standard to all. What makes up happiness? Why are we injected with the poison that makes us always always look forward to happiness? Who said it is something to look forward to,in the first place? That phase in life where we never ever get hurt or we get all our dreams come true or we live reverie states of mind will not be experienced by any of us. We must accept it does not exist. Happiness is something you choose, by your own. Waiting for destiny to show you how much it's faithful to your desires, won't work. Neither will being upset over your helplessness. The world is endlessly wondrous, in terrible and great ways.And we are all given the capability to observe. Which, in fact, makes us all at the same level of our so-called persuit of happiness. We can all observe,freely. We can contemplate beauty. All forms of beauty. We can all fall in love with art. We can all find worlds inside of us, so we can never be bored. I know it is extremely annoying to tell people start off with yourself and create your happiness by your own. Because, honestly it all sounds euphoric and flimsy. Some people just have nothing to start with. And some people have had their fullest from pain and don't have any capacity left to make anything... Even if it's just changing perspective.Who said pain should be erased? Who said you should constantly look forward to something else? Who said you're not allowed to feel what you feel like? There's no right way to live after all, you know? Start off where you are. From YOU. Your own skin affiliated with your pain, feels,thoughts, secrets,hopes and fears, Give up on your pessimism and that's enough. And I'm not asking you to embrace optimism either. Happiness does not depend on people or events or luck or fate or love. Find it and lose it. Grab it and let go of it. 24/7 Euphoria is psycho. All you need is a vision. Don't fear having one. Take opportunities if you can. Speak, try, see,feel, taste, deliver, think, create, and be more than less. We're all on the same quest here in this very earth, looking for truth. Do not go with the flow. Let them not forge your beliefs. Don't waste your time. Happiness is(?) what you decide you want it to be. A mediocre life is the last thing you'd like to live...

P.S- I'm quite aware of the fact that you cannot restrict the way someone thinks and I am not trying to. Just felt like I need to express my thoughts through this essay. Therefore, I request you not to just give me "So true" reviews. I'm pretty candid and open to any opinion unless its affiliated with the intention to dishearten me or act like a philosopher.

we can all observe freely. This is right on the money. so many people become victims of their situation - waiting for happiness like some sort of Christmas treat - but happiness is something that resonates within first and then bubbles to the surface.

If we did not know sadness we will never know happiness... the world is full of conflict, everywhen, everywhere. Heraclitus believed that if the word did not have conflict then it would surely collapse in on itself, I have been pondering this very thought a lot recently ....

Do we all strive for happiness? Happiness is a burst of energy that as you say we feed ourselves, but if we did not know sadness we would never understand happiness. Is happiness something that should be sought out? Hmmm that is a good question, because it is not lasting, happiness, just like everything else is just a moment in time, and everything changes moment to moment, that is one certain law of the universe. So perhaps instead of striving for happiness we should strive to 'accept and observe' the moments that we are in, for as you say, we all have our own unique paths, we all have our own unique lessons.

Within sadness, hurt, heartbreak, death, war, a walk in the park, falling in love, anger, compassion, empathy, there are many millions of lessons and as we walk through our lives we learn through the 'experience of it all'. Everything should be experienced in moderation in my opinion, for that is how we learn and grow.

Happiness is fleeting, yet our energy lasts forever.

Ok then... here are my wee thoughts....

In my opinion you should never start an essay with the word 'Well' ... instantly it looses credibility.The next sentence starts with an 'And' another sure fire way to lose interest. I would only very rarely and with great thought open a sentence with And.

You have not used any paragraphs so it is difficult to ascertain where your arguments for this article start and finish. Each paragraph should consist of a strong opening with points of discussion and a summation sentence at the end.

'I shall now come to the significant points I want to stress.' this sentence should be said without 'saying it' you are writing an essay, it is taken for granted that you will have points to make ... lose the 'fluff' and get to the point.

'I know it is extremely annoying to tell people start off with yourself and create your happiness by your own' this statement presumes that you know what the reader thinks already, that is not your job to presume, your job is to present facts so that people may be persuaded over to your way of thinking.

I feel the latter part of your essay speaks at the audience like you perhaps are some kind of guru on happiness or something ... In my experience generally people do not enjoy being spoken at, instead prefer given cause to reflect on what has been stated and come to their own conclusions.

This is just a message not an official essay though! I believe you cannot restrict or direct how somebody thinks, and especially when it comes to a topic involving "perspective" such as happiness. This wasn't an attempt to inspire anybody either! And yes I assume what the reader must be feeling because its too obvious! We've all thought these thoughts! I wanted to talk about the common and give my unusual opinions about it! xx

Don't ever assume what is obvious, something that I have learnt by observing is that we all see, hear, think and feel uniquely due to many different factors such as age, culture, society, religion, upbringing, the weather we live in, our family values etc.. what is obvious to you may be a brand new concept for someone else ...I will give you an example .. The Kahuna people of Hawaii, before white man came, had no word for doubt. Can you imagine the freedoms that must have allowed for them. They had no word and had no understanding or feeling for the 'doubt' .. it was White Man that introduced that too them.

This was a wonderful and honest way to describe happiness. Think about it as a tall skyscraper where you can chose to inhabit any level you can reach to live in it but joy is the elevator that takes you with others in it to the highest of it and then back down. Happiness is more material based while joy is more spiritual based but they can connect and mingle. I could be wrong but I was inspired by your words. Bravo...........

Happiness completely depends on one's perception. One can either enjoy their surrounding our find it annoying. But according to me their is one sure shot source of happiness for everyone and that is the pleasure of giving..

I have this idea that when we look for a definition of happiness perhaps we feel that there's something lacking in our life. Science might measure it by the level of seratonin or dopamine but to me happiness is something subjective and cannot be exactly identified or quantified because it is a state of feeling. Just yesterday i defined happiness as getting home before the sun sets. This morning, i defined happiness as having freshly baked chocolate chips and coffee for breakfast and so on...
