A Poem by Kya

Reach for the volume knob with one bitten-nail hand,
keeping the other on the hot leather wheel.
Crank the window down and feel the gusts.
Holding your breath over the bridge
where the air is bad.
Turn the song up and hum along, sing along, even change the station
Turn it off and drive in semi-silence,
Because you can hear your breathing and the tires humming after the song you quieted
And you just drive, you go and you keep going
Down a road you know and a road you don't,
And you just forget what happened today, or yesterday, or a year ago or what happened in
a week,
three days,
seven hours,
and thirty four minutes

And you just drive and drive and you hum with those tires and you do a little dance with your fingertips and you go.
