Easter Sunday Escape

Easter Sunday Escape

A Poem by Onlyme

Easter Sunday and most of the streets
are quiet and empty.
But head to the coastline and
everyone is there.
Basking in the sunshine
kids playing on the beach.
Icecream and burgers
with onions the smell
is wafting in the air

As most folk are eating
them as you
pass them on the pier.

Some are on the amusement rides.
Even a horse and carriage is pulling
tourist along the promenade.

Someone young men are drunk already
and its only midday.
Turns out they are on a pub claw
as one of them is getting married
tommorow and this his is last day
of freedom with his mates.

Two old ladies are on there mobility scooters
driving like some nutty old people do.
In and out, around and about.
Fast and furious. Nearly running
into someone poor souls back of legs.

Young children with fancy helium balloons
in the shape of teddybears. Run past with
their young parents in tow.
Giggling and laughing out loud.

A young couple on bench.
Deep in a kiss.

Oh the memories of being a teenager again.
And so in love.

Dawn,
A wonderful sketch of human activity on the day of rest. Yes . . . it is escape . . . from the drudgery of everyday life . . . it is to our shame we cannot (or will not) learn to love life in all its forms. Human striving for contentment and meaning is part of mankind's curse. So we all come together on these days to commune separately . . . still enjoying our commonality.

You're welcome, Dawn.
It all happens when the sun shines.
The Brits suddenly come out of hibernation.
Hate to say it, but think I was one of those dinner time drunks.
