Street Lights

Street Lights

A Poem by parker

In my dreams, my restless sleep,
The palms are green and tall.
But when I wake, in this cold place,
I see no trees at all.
And in their stead, hard and dead,
Streetlights shine all night.
But the light is pale and somehow frail
Compared to island light.
The golden sun shone down upon
My heart when I was small,
The moon so bright with silver light
Night wasn't dark at all.
Here night is thick and seems a bit
Like the bottom of the sea,
Swallow me whole and none would know
What ever became of me.
If I swim away maybe then someday
I'll finally reach the end,
Where the waves are blue and they call to you
Like the laughter of a friend.
If I close my eyes I could fly all night
To the place that I belong,
To an island time that's stuck in my mind
Like the lyrics of a song.
