Softly

Softly

A Poem by parker

I fall to my knees
In the damp, dewy grass.
A new day dawns without me.

My heart stays behind,
Yesterday, when you loved me.
When the sun was so bright,
The night so far.

I stare into the rising sun,
Hoping that I will be blinded.
Unable to see your face.
Unable to be lured back
Into your arms.

There is a dagger in my heart,
And I am drowning in my tears.
Tears of loss
Tears of love
Tears of pain.

There are letters on the hilt
And I stare at them,
Trying to remember the sound
Of those precious letters,
That forgotten name,
In your voice.
The name you gave me
That was mine alone.

Your love has drifted.
I will never hear that name
Upon your lips again.
But here it is.
Reminding me of what I've lost.

I grasp the hilt,
The letters softly glowing green.
Your favorite color.
The color of spring.
And hope.
And happiness.
The color fades.

I tear your dagger
Out of my heart,
And push your picture
Out of my mind.
I'm left sobbing,
And screaming.
At the dawn of a new day
With a scar from the last.
