Simple Lives

Simple Lives

A Poem by parker

I'm not afraid of life,
But I am afraid of death.
Afraid that I may die today
And there'll be nothing left.
An empty seat where I should sit
An empty bed where I should lay
An empty life and nothing proves
I lived here yesterday.
The books we read to tell us
What events have come to pass
Will soon - backspace - erase my life
And but a sigh will last.
To float away past deafened ears
That only hear the cries
Of triumph or of great defeat
But not of simple lives.
So I'm not afraid of living,
No, it holds no fright for me,
I'm just afraid of getting lost
In the graves of history.
