Small Talk

Small Talk

A Poem by parker

I want you to talk to me,
and I really don't care
what you talk about.
I keep asking you questions
and you're answering them,
but you're not
and you know it.

I want you to speak with me,
not just respond to my comments
like a trained bird.
I want you to tell me about your life,
past, present, and future.
I want you to talk about
what you think of the world,
and your place in it,
and mine.
I want you to say
that my place in this world
is by your side,
but I know you won't and that's okay,
I just want you to say something.

Instead you talk to me
without saying anything.
You smile at me
with a humor that never reaches your eyes.
I want my phone to ring
with your unexpected phone call.
I want you to do the little things
that make me smile involuntarily.

I know that I'm assigning you a hard role to play,
but if you're not interested
in fulfilling my expectations of you,
then it doesn't matter what they are.

There are so many things that I don't understand
and can't figure out on my own.
I want you to be the answer to my problems,
but I know you won't be and that's okay,
I just want you to be here,
and you are,
but you're not
and you know it.

If i read this poem over and over again, I'm sure I'm gonna fall in love with somebody, or at least want somebody like the person you've described in the poem!
That strong love for a person and that want is so desperate!

I loved the poem!!

keep writing :D
