Hurdles

Hurdles

A Poem by parker

I didn't expect you.
I thought that we were done
years and years ago,
I thought you'd never forget
that I was stupid and young.
Thought you'd never forgive me
for mistakes and missteps I made
when I didn't understand
how much I could affect you.

I didn't expect this.
I thought it would be strange
to see your face again.
I thought we'd barely be friends
with years of hurt and anger
welling up between us.
Thought we could never hurdle
the words we never said,
the things we never did,
the lives we didn't lead.

I didn't expect us.
I've looked into your eyes
and felt your gentle touch,
but now I have to let you go again.
I have no more regrets
and now I am at peace
with you and everything between us.
And for the future I have hopes
that I'll be in your arms again
and I won't miss you anymore.
