A Poem by Persephone

As I sit on the floor

Buried in an old box on a shelf

A photo stands out among the hundreds

My seventeen year old self stares out at me

Smiling

Little makeup on her face

Bangs in her eyes

No knowledge of worldly things

Happy in that moment

Sitting next to the boy she believes one day she’ll marry

Here

In the present

I remember to value every moment

For years and time go so fast

Wow, this is really amazing! I can somewhat relate since I have a picture in a frame that's beside my bed. It's taken of me and my ex boyfriend Nick. I smile sometimes when looking at it, then there are times I admit that I cry. But I see how happy we were together then now we're only good friends. Thank you for sharing such an amazing and relatable poem :)

I agree, thanks for reading!
Real logic in this poem. Good to look back when we had no fear and love was the way. We need those old good memories to keep us somber of the pain and hurt of life. Thank you for the excellent poem.

I agree, it's good to have the reminder of those times, thank you for the thoughts :)
Very lovely piece. I love the simplicity and reflection. So relatable - haven't we all, of a certain age, had this experience? Excellent write!

You are always welcome.
Years and time certainly do go fast, faster than we are ready for. I liked the way you put things into perspective on this. I can identify with it very much. Great poem.

No problem Persephone.
It's amazing how much and how little one of those old memories can change? Always leaves that bittersweet taste...
