Lake Titicaca

Lake Titicaca

A Poem by Scott H.
"

A geography lesson

“Lake Titicaca”

Down in South America

A'tween Peru and Bolivie

Sits one of the highest navigable lakes in the world

Which I would love to see

Two sub-basins connected

By the Strait of Tiquina

Five grand rivers which empty out into your banks

Glacial meltwater filling you up

Your name it is a mystery

From whence no one seems sure

You look like a puma who is stalking a rabbit

But this legend it did not endure

O Lake Titicaca

So cold and so blue

Your islands have one hundred eighty archaeological ruins -

Did the Inca name you?

Because Lake Titicaca

You are such fun to say

Your name it could roll off my tongue for long hours

Washing my sorrows away
