Rubaiyat

 

I think perhaps that poetry.

Predates recorded history

At first it was an oral art.

I claim that with some certainty.

 

The poets were a race apart

Destined to play a different part.

To educate their fellow men

The spoke directly from the heart

 

But sadly things have changed since then

I do not think we’ll see again

Poets accorded such respect.

But this is now and that was then.

 

Modern poets cannot expect

To gain their fellow men’s respect

Unless they see them on T.V.

Which draws attention to the subject.

 

I think that very probably.

They undervalue poetry.

Because they were put off at school

By teachers of poor quality.

 

It seems to be general rule.

They do not see it as a tool

More something that they have to do.

That’s why their pupils play the fool.

 

I take a very different view.

There’s nothing I would rather do

Than listen to fine poetry

I might by chance learn something new.

I can honestly say that so many people feel the same way that this poem expresses, if there was anything I did durring school it was write because most of the classes bored me and when they seen me writing it wasnt wow thats talent may I read it was oh stop dreaming and put it away or they took it. Loved the poem, glad I read it. Makes me feel honnored that I can write ok poetry.
