Knit One Purl Two

Knit One Purl Two

I pulled a loose thread on my sweater.
Thinking the neater the better.
It just kept unraveling.
My spirit traveling.
Until there was nothing left but an unruly pile of yarn on the floor.
Nothing more.
But you see, I know a tailor.
A very reasonable wholesaler.
My own personal habadasher.
Sewing circle, party-crasher.
It's okay.
I never liked that sweater anyway.
God will make a new one for a new day.
No matter what I do, he will ...
... knit one purl two ...

You took me back a bit, I learned to knit at an early age. I come from a family who used to knit all their own jumpers. I was always worried about dropping stitches because they turned into holes. But loose threads, they are something else. This was a very visual write and that pile of unraveled thread is fixed firmly in my head. All wool and no jumper. A fun write but this could be read on other levels. Well done Pete.

This is one of the best spiritual messages I've read in MONTHS! This is a great analogy! The knitting details I'd forgotten about are well crafted to suggest we are "WORKS IN PROGRESS" (under the direction of God, of course!) I think spiritual writing should be more casual & conversational & fun like this. I do not like how some spiritual writers get all stuffy or serious or they use bible-ease that sounds pretentious or condescending. Why can't spirituality just be comfortable & everyday, like this?
