Catching His Breath

Catching His Breath

A Poem by Pete
"

George Floyd

"
Police across U.S. condemn George Floyd in-custody death - New ...

there's a blue knee squashing christ's kneck
anchored by black boots of death

pleading, "i can't breathe"
in this river of forgetfulness
these drunken waters of lethe

a promise is a promise
today you will be with me in paradise
assuredly

he will crush your head and you will bruise his heel
cities are burning
gold takes shape in the fire of a golden forge
welcome to heaven george

I confess, I've been so buried in writing my book for 2 months, I have not FELT anything about anything that's going on in the world (so complete is my wilderness solitude). Reading your poem is the very first time I've actually FELT the enormity of what happened to spark what's raging in our country. I've only been peripherally aware in a cerebral way, until now. The funny thing is, I sometimes think of your writing as being cerebral . . . well, this is the polar opposite of that! This is getting to the heart of the matter & pulling those heartstrings (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Such a tragedy of words, Pete. Tis now said that in future history books, the Pandemic in your country will be overlooked by a single death. And yet, our world knows so many moments in a great and incredible past.
