Wherever They Darn Well Please

A Poem by Pete
"

Where the most beautiful wild flowers grow, there mans spirit is fed and poets grow. - Thoreau

"
Amistad Salvia

orchids baffling
snapdragons snaffling
larkspur laughing
red hot pokers staffing
buttercups spread freshly, churned joy and gladness over the rolling hills
echinacea providing even more thrills
tiger lilies roaring the laughter of their striped approval
wisteria climbing with a royal, embellishing bamboozle
lavender and jasmine perfuming and infusing with a dab 'hind each ear
daffodils raising a cup of good cheer
tulips screwed in their bulbs with the variety of wattages in different hues
chrysanthemums and money trees bringing nothing but good news

daffodils bobbed their heads to the music of an impending spring
begotten begonias toting their sepals of everything
birds of paradise soared
zinnias growing anything but bored
ghost flowers provided their chills
sunflowers standing tall with attentive, solar thrills
fountain grass bestowing sharp, cascading spills
wisteria and coreopsis danced a lengthy twist
dandelions blowing a kiss along with a floating wish
morning glories giving thanks 'pon their delicate knees
irises raising the royal arms of fleur-de-lis
salvia providing runways for bumble bees
their cosmopolitan bags packed for
wherever they darn well please

Generally I am not a fan of pushing my readers onto google to decipher my verbiage.
HOWEVER...
A time and place certainly exists for such encouragement into external learning.
This being a great time and place for such a thing.
I am not only bowled over by the meter and clean feel to the slant of flow...
I am positively ecstatic that I was given so many flowers and flora to learn.

Not overwhelming, and with nice visuals/metaphors to accompany each new subject...
Thanks for writing this!

Well I'm probably biased but I'd say your Canadian side is your better half.

I'm listening to all the instruments in the band as I write ....it has the feel of almost a Caribbean blend......yet your words paint a splendid scene of Monet's flowers, colors and the enormous amount of different types you mention... you must love gardening or simply walking through a mural of flowers to the beat of that very cool music....Nice Pete!

I totally agree Pete, nothing like sweet smelling roses to start the day….🌷

I am sure this is about more than the visual, more than about botany and more than about gradening. More than about nature and colour. More than about growing and nurturing. More than about the use of botanical language and more than about smelling the flowers. In fact more than about the blooms themselves. But for the flowery life of me I can't think what that is.

I still think.
the alliteration is wonderful...this rolls off the tongue...and you comprise a painting of personification that grows before our eyes.

thanks for taking the time to stop and smell ... :)
A treat to stop by Pete for your floral bouquet. Wonderful colour and variety. I imagined the scent wafting over to this side of the pond. It has been a cold day and spring hasn’t arrived yet so your poem has given me a taste of what will come soon. I have just had an orchid bloom which I had almost given up on. What a surprise that was.

"Love is a rose and you'd better not pick it. It only grows when it's on the vine; handful of thorns and you'll know you missed it, lose your love when you say the word, "mine"." Linda Ronstadt
But not all flowers have thorns nor do all thorns produce flowers. Orchids rarely have thorns but they are very particular about the atmosphere in which they grow and bloom. I liked your flower arrangement here in a salute to Spring.
