Doodles/

By Sami Khalil

(Had these feelings of inferiority when I started writing and when my family and friends did not believe in me …)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I felt like a dud!

In my lonely cogitations

Upon my forgotten doodles

Dissevered from evanescent aeries.

I felt tawdry!

In my precious broodings

Upon my cacophonous surmises

Enraptured in fastidious poetic words.

I felt helpless!

In my unheard, unseen inwards

Upon melodious heart-strums

Entrailed in recesses of life’s songs.

I felt traceless!

In my alternate universe

Upon my scalding babblings

Sky lined of exploding recognitions.

I felt a poet...In self-gratitude

When life left him wafting in the breezes

When love left him lapping in the waves

When death left him mourning in past arrears.

Sami, I have been here thrice but I was just trying not to comment because I was not sure how far my words can take me, yet I can't resist myself from not sharing my thoughts about this, so here I am. I can feel you completely. It is truly sad when the people we care too much do not appreciate the only important thing that makes us happy and we know we fully posses. It becomes a battle deep within if we will continue to believe in it, in our capabilities or we just let it go because it does not anyway brings happiness to the ones we love-- that each time we pen we feel the guilt somehow; it feels like needles pricking us in the middle of happiness every time we come up with good poetry...

"When love left him lapping in the waves." Your word painting and alliteration is always a blessing to me.
Thanks my friend.

Stunning words here sir.
in each progressive stanza, you take us deeper into feelings of insecurity and loneliness. To combat those feelings myself is why i really love this site. The chance to be heard and even more important to hear great poems from yourself and others. thank you!

I think many of us will be able to relate to your frustration, your self-questioning, and your anger. Many people do not understand that poetry is not just something we "do.". It is something we live. It is something that defines us and keeps us going through life. I hope your family eventually realized you are a very good poet and gave you the praise you so deserve. Of course, as poets, we are often our own worst critics. This is well written and beautifully presented. Lydi**

I like the way you go from the simple to the more florid. It absolutely captures and maintains the readers attention. In particular I am fond of the above stanza. I think it captures some of the painful yet poignant moments of inspiration. Great as always.

I feel like this poem, it could not have been more profound to find this poem and quietly cry for what reflections it has shown. Yes I like this one.

Hay Sami! I'm glad this poet was revived!
Yes, this is how we feel as artists of any kind. So many others do not see what we are trying to express. They do not even try it seems and the pain is worse when those who should know us best seem to mock us and go on misunderstanding the deepest expressions from the belly of our souls.
I could feel this write Sami. I wanted to shrink into the poem and pull this figure from the lapping waves myself... I could see my own past drowning there.
Good to spend a moment in the mind of Sami today! Great poem. One of your most enjoyable poems for me.

So beautiful...you capture the essence of what a poet hopes for...the capturing of every droplet fallen through the raindrops of life...gathered and momentum...beautiful xx

Everyone goes through this at some point of their life. The moment is very well captured.
