Doodles/

By Sami Khalil

(Had these feelings of inferiority when I started writing and when my family and friends did not believe in me …)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I felt like a dud!

In my lonely cogitations

Upon my forgotten doodles

Dissevered from evanescent aeries.

I felt tawdry!

In my precious broodings

Upon my cacophonous surmises

Enraptured in fastidious poetic words.

I felt helpless!

In my unheard, unseen inwards

Upon melodious heart-strums

Entrailed in recesses of life’s songs.

I felt traceless!

In my alternate universe

Upon my scalding babblings

Sky lined of exploding recognitions.

I felt a poet...In self-gratitude

When life left him wafting in the breezes

When love left him lapping in the waves

When death left him mourning in past arrears.

Sami, I have been here thrice but I was just trying not to comment because I was not sure how far my words can take me, yet I can't resist myself from not sharing my thoughts about this, so here I am. I can feel you completely. It is truly sad when the people we care too much do not appreciate the only important thing that makes us happy and we know we fully posses. It becomes a battle deep within if we will continue to believe in it, in our capabilities or we just let it go because it does not anyway brings happiness to the ones we love-- that each time we pen we feel the guilt somehow; it feels like needles pricking us in the middle of happiness every time we come up with good poetry...

I think we've all been there, in that dark place where no one understand our words so we think we arent good at expressing ourselves. Its sort of an occupational hazard for us, as writers and poets. I'm so very glad you grew past the feelings of inferiority and now bless everyone with your amazing gift of words.

"We write to express because of what our soul dictates the heart writes but when the body begins to respond with it, the action becomes an inaction involuntarily. For we have already written what we are saying unknowingly because it is produced in the pages that we have been given. After all what is a writer's will but their way of knowing they give a different perspective, a unique touch and a taste of what they have to offer when we offer them a plate of our knowledge. For one doesn't immediately fall in love and in line of what they write immediately. They must learn to refine, restructure and reconstruct their mind, heart and soul to its finest detail because the final result may not be the best but it is what they say. Good. For no matter what writer will tell us, it will only be us that could write the way we do not them."

"It's the beauty of a writer that never forgets why they fell in love in the first place of what fantasy they were in the first place. As yours is as grounded but exorbitant it becomes something that one is easily palpable." :)

Beautiful poem especially like the lines " I felt tawdry!
In my precious broodings
Upon my cacophonous surmises
Enraptured in fastidious poetic words.
I felt helpless!
In my unheard, unseen inwards
Upon melodious heart-strums
Entrailed in recesses of life’s songs."

Nicely structured. The last stanza is particularly well crafted with the repetition. Very nicely done Sami.

You’re a very good writer. i really like the flow you created with this piece, it falls into a very nice rhythm.

I also like how you took the subject matter and managed to make it unique and original.

Oh, don't I know it! I sometimes feel like a black sheep. Some of my friends don't even read books. I just don't get it. The word is so important to me. I cannot breathe without words. Some people I know (at work) look at me like I have a third eyeball when I say I write. How can they function without books, reading and writing, Sami?! Gaaa! You are preaching to the choir with this one! Angi~

Hi Sami. A beautiful heartfelt write. Skillfully crafted free verse which I enjoy. Good imagery, flow and tone. Line to line transition and breaks are done well. Nice enjambment. Deep expression of emotion. You express these dark feelings of hurt with passion. I like how you use the traits of nature to describe your feelings. I can commiserate. My family and some friends didn't really understand how important my need was to write (mostly poetry) was to me. So, for a long time I kept it to myself... and that was after I stopped writing for almost 25 years. In 2002 I started writing again, and I will never look back. This time around I've had friends who write who have been encouraging, so even my family now enjoys my poetry when I share it with them. Powerful closing lines. Well penned and a good read. Write on!
