A modern English sonnet…

 

Lend me an ear, listening to my voice

Lend me a tear to feel my few sorrows

Hard to be whole when one cannot rejoice

Alarmed at the future event that follows.

 

Hardships abound when homework is not done

When lighthouses are dimmed when begged to shine

Neither harvest sans the sun, nor dry run

Your next dawn will rise up on forehead’s sign.

 

War and peace are two sides of the same coin

Marks of doom and hope-filled gaps in between

Watching the waves crash where regret paths join

They were nightmares as far as I could glean.

 

Life’s fragile and so hearts keep pulsating

Blood-soaked as love on tight ropes abating.

Hi Sami
My feeling is that life is very fragile… and so it is impossible to feel good these days… it is the toss of the coin as to which way our lives will be like…is there doom? Or is there hope? Will the earth fry up because if climate change, or will be at war soon, or will we have a dictator as president……or even how long will we be around to see what May happen…….sorrow or hope?

well said sami. reminds me of the christian song from 1955 - "let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me". unfortunately, i highly doubt that we'll ever see peace on earth again. a sad state of affairs ... :)

Wowzy woooo! So true and well articulated. That is why I like some of the Stoic ideas. It call for calm, balance, tempered reactions in equanimity; hard to do for we are emotional beings trying to be reasonable.

sometimes it is unfortunate that there are two sides to a coin...but the bad comes with the good, and life is chance...I really love the last two lines here.
Even the nightmares tell us something...we live we learn and then we live the life after that.
