Slip Of Lips~

Slip Of Lips~

A Poem by NoneOfYourBusiness akaKITTY KUTABAREakaCandyPole

If you knew

How to be a man

You would understand

That sometimes

My soul comes off

With my lipstick

When you press your fingertips against my mouth

But you always wipe it off

Without looking at the patterns

Lips are full of history

At the corners rest fables

Tiny, expressive muscles quirky with decades of movement

Fullness in berry, lush with character, vanity, temper, ripe with secrets

But you just b***h about its print

On your collar, and pluck my kisses from your jaw line

A white napkin stole my soul

And the coffee was as bitter as any other day

And I am left contemplating your cuff links on the napkin

Positioned between mulberry lips

Wondering if the lip prints will slip from your fingertips

And imprint in the leather wheel

As you back out

And journey back to the lie you share

With your wife

I agree with firewoman, i was holding my breath and not even realizing it. the first stanza is freakin (i know, a writer should use real words, but sometimes explitives are warranted) amazing. and i love the way the tone slides slowly to a bit acerbic at the end. a lip print, like a fingerprint is different for every person, as you hint at, a fossil of her history. how does one treat fossils, either with reverence and wonder, or with no respect. i think we know how this one treated.

Your versatility in the arena of writing is without limits. The manner in which you utilize word placement is certainly beyond the capability of structured writers who adhere to form, and yet you challenge even the best of those with poetry that you create inside those limits. You're more than a writer. You're a philosopher, a scientist, a sage, and one of the most complex women I've ever encountered.

i think you gave me a nose bleed with the four knuckled punch this delivered. you have proven again and again, that you can cut just as well with what comes out of those mulberry lips as you can with your bushido sword.

It is perfect, selene, in every painful nuance. That opening stanza... just Wow! And as the tale unwinds, the woman's open heart ignored by the man's ignorance builds to the last devastating lines.

the lie you share with your wife - the lie you share with me.

Regardless, a wonderful story you paint. The voice you hear in poetry should always be called "the narrator" and is not always the person behind the pen, even though most assume as such. If they do, deny, deny, deny. lol Wondering if your lips/soul would accompany him while he cheats, and while he goes back and lives his life of pretend. If they do many men set it aside. Very interesting way to look at lips. Lips can tell a thousand lies and a thousand and one secrets...

Beautiful imagery here. It's a rather sad story, a situation in which nobody is really happy.

As always you have such a way with images and words. The expressive detail of what's kept within and marked by a kiss. Held between our lips are kept the most sacred secrets. The feeling behind it, of just being 'the other woman'. A meaningless object to sate his desire.

ouch is the word that came to mind too lol ~ a woman's lips (all sets) are irressitable = loved that line - my soul comes off with my lipstick...cool imagery!
