Holy God !

Holy God !

A Poem by Shalini Dinesh (Poet's World)

Walking past the streets,

built within me
a deep sense of fear,
the darkened roads,

the howling dogs,
Oh! I was mistaken,

they were men, not dogs,
my heart raced fast,
as I hastened to walk
away from the place,

far far away,
I heard the ringing of holy bells,
Ah!  Faint, and dim.

                 Unfaithful kith and kin,
                 growling behind you,
after eating the food you served
                when they were hungry,
smiling in front of you, and
                frowning at the back,
Oh God! I trusted them all,
               walking past these traitors,
               a sudden sparkle of light,
               the skies split into two,
               the clinking sound of glasses
              as the stars collided,
the moon shined brighter than ever.

Looking up in amazement,
with a tattered heart,
shattered trust and hope,
a shower of divine rain,
wet me in sea of blessings,
I rose high, with solemn faith,
lifted in the hands of God,
wept away my tears and fears,
sprinkling my life back on me,
forgetting the traitors and sinners,
leaving behind the thorns,
at last, I admired the rose!
the fragrance filled my soul.

At the blink of my eye,
                  the sky became dark again,
                  it was like a gimmick,
where did my Holy God go?
Alas! Did the blessing sea drain?
realized that god never splits the sky,
chinks the stars, nor brightens the moon,
to give you a sacred vision,
               God resides within you,
talks to you, and guides your way,
              sparing a moment or two
              to listen to his words,
             changes your whole new world!

this was beautiful. i loved the first stanza and agree with Christina May Shanaberg,
the line "they were men, not dogs" I found particularly clever.

This was a tribute to all, whom are godly and have to walk and live among the ungodly.

My favorite line was, "they were men, not dogs."

I never comment on punctuation, structure, or grammer, because that is a poet's choice.

Spell check:

Line 7 Paragraph 2-Shucks
Line 11 Paragraph 2-Clinking
Line 1 Paragraph 3-Amazement

Chinks is, however, correct in Line 7 Paragraph 4!

I really enjoyed reading this write and thank you for drawing my attention to it.
