Features' Truths

Features' Truths

A Poem by Nicole Schuster
"

for those who put on a mask, but have a history beneath

"
The prettiest smiles
Hold the darkest secrets
They mask the pain and the hurt
That threaten to cry out
A beautiful smile
Shows that some part is okay
Even if another part is not
It's the proof
That it's possible to be happy
Even if you have something dark
Deep below

The brightest eyes
Have cried the most tears
They light the face
Replacing water with a glow
The glow
Says that there really is good in life
And heightens how much the happy times
Are appreciated
Because of the hurt from the past

And the kindest hearts
Have felt the most pain
They showcase joy and kindness
Because they want to protect others;
They know how much it hurts
They have experienced true pain
And they know how awful
It is to feel that way
So they show kindness to everyone
Because they don't want others
To feel the same way
