Ponds to Oceans

Ponds to Oceans

A Poem by skin crawler

I grew up wishing for happiness and love

For new beginnings and happy endings

The kind that make me go to sleep calm

And wake up easy

And slow

And as I grew

I gave my heart to few

Being careful

Asking intentions

Ensuring my heart was secure

And allowing one to dive in

Deep into the pond that was my heart

Before he came up shallow

And said the pond gives him chills

You don’t trust me, your waters are too cold

And I let him walk away

And decided to dig deeper

I carved away at every stone that inhibited the depth

I took away the stones on the bottom of the pond

The ones that weighed me down

Crushed my ambitions

And my pond became an ocean

This is a brilliant & unexpected analogy that you've spun out to the limit of how far it will go. I especially love the last verse & how this is the freshest analogy ever, yet also highly relatable. It's amazing how ponds turn into oceans when we clear out the big boulders we keep tripping over! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
