Starlight....Star bright

Starlight....Star bright

A Poem by smurfett

I caught a falling star
But I didn't know it's worth,
Things found in the heavens
Are worth more than those on earth.
I tried to hold it tightly
With all abounding love,
I knew that what I had was great
For it came from up above.
It brought me joy, I had no doubt
I'd always hold it near,
To find that kind of love again
One would search for years.
Then it happened, I got too close
I gave the star a name,
A face, a soul, a need to be
Things will never be the same.
As time went by and seasons changed
My star began to fade,
The light that once showed me the way
The glint all but decayed.
Why is it when we find someone
Too tight we strive to hold,
The more they know we love them so
Their heart it turns so cold.
I'll never know just how or why
It all just fell apart,
The one thing that I'm certain of
A star has stole my heart.

Thank you Terry! ! That means alot. :-)
I like this one Smurfett. It staggers frighteningly close to Silly at times, but that is what poetry must risk or be ordinary words.

I like this clever poem and the message. So often we find something (or someone) that is perfect, just the way they are, and yet we try to conform and model it to suit us a little better. I like the line, then it happened, I got too close I gave the star a name. A face, a soul, a need to be...then the star began to fade. I get it, cheers jude

I like the poem, it could be interpreted as a metaphor to life and how spirits are similar to shinning stars, they start strong and full of life and then with time persons spirits travel to other worlds

Lovely sentiments, Smurfett...I love use of analogy of a star because a love can shine so bright and so quick, to capture one's heart.

You are very welcome, Smurfett...it was my pleasure. :)
Love can be like ivy embalming the tree of life
At first they’re compatible but in the end:
Striving only for one’s self suffocates the other
Reaching for the stars isn’t in either ones favour.

Nicely put Mark. I couldn't agree more. Thanks for reading
Nice piece. I was a bit discouraged in the first few lines, but was glad I read through to the end... where so subtly you drive the point home that things found int he heavens are not at all worth more than those we find here on earth. Enjoyed this... thanks for sharing
