Finally, Father

Finally, Father

A Poem by Starr Alexis

6 years, 5 months, and 11 days
It has been much too long

since I was able to hear the voice of my father

a storm of emotion

but not once had the thunder rolled

203,472,000 seconds

since the last time I saw him

nothing I could do about it

except try not to let it be much of a bother

Letter after letter

not able to hear my daddy’s voice

After 3,391,200 minutes

talking to him on the phone

made my heart swell

droplets of jubilation fell from my eyes

and cascaded into showers

After 56, 520 hours

no longer shall we have to deposit our voices

through ink

onto paper as our documented conversations

6 years, 5 months, 14 days

until I was able to be in my daddy’s arms again

It took everything I had not to burst into tears

too many days, months, and years

without hugging my daddy

203,785,200 seconds

and I finally saw my brawny, 6’3, skillful, and tatted dad

After 3,396,420 minutes

spending time with Daddy

made my heart become more and more whole

one of the very few moments of joie de vivre

I had ever experienced

After 56,607 hours

talking face to face

my heart was beating apace

with the exhilaration

Finally, Father

Finally, the time had come

it has been much too long

nothing can ever change

that I love thou

I love you, Daddy
