Yellow Rose Beauty

Yellow Rose Beauty

A Poem by Mark
"

First Love, written long ago.

"

Gone are the days, of my sweet yellow rose.

I'd run by and snatch them from under the neighbors nose,

And as I ran he'd curse me, but I had not a care,

For the rose was for the girl with the sweet yellow hair.

I' d give her the rose and she'd hug me so tight.

Her lips were as soft as a breeze on the night,

Her eyes shone like diamonds, and her skin was, oh, so fair,

My yellow rose beauty was a girl, oh, so rare.

But I took her for granted, and she took it right in stride.

Somehow my sweet beauty, she just kept up her pride,

If only I'd known, and at such a great cost,

The love that we shared would soon become lost.

Now I' ll never stop loving her until the day I die.

And even after then, I know I'll still cry,

So if you've got a yellow rose beauty, that you can call your own,

Don't end up like me, and be a fool, all alone....

beautiful rhythm and heartfelt

in the beginning it reminded me of a song,

in the end, of a fable.

That's great to hear, as that's an analogy I feel as well. Thanks for stopping by, Paul.
Ah, now you made me feel old, there's a message in your madness. Not your usual snarky bit but a bittersweet reminisce.

Thanks Frieda, but I wrote this a LONG time ago. It's taken years of work to get this snarky! ;)

Ah me, the mistakes we make!! Your poem illustrates how easy it is to miss our opportunities for happiness, Mark. Well done. P.

Thanks Pete.
The speaker sounds very old and wise in this poem...like an elder knitting or reading the paper on his porch. Ironically, I think yellow roses denote friendship... Nicely written poem, great rhythm and talented rhyming.
