When I finally quit trying to rationalize my existence, I suddenly realized it wasn't necessary.

I have had the opportunity,

To spend many many nights,

In really awful places.

 

I have been fortunate enough,

To know a lot of people,

With confused and tired faces.

 

I aint always been good, god knows thats true.

Rarely do, things I am supposed to do.

But I am always true........

To myself.

 

I am never hateful,

I have never played the gun.

I have never, intentionally,

hurt anyone........

 

If you hear me raise my voice,

In anger or frustration.

Know I will use the voice of reason.

Which is difficult to argue with.

 

I've never had too much money.

And I have never been poor.

I have never suffered a college education.

 

I am a lucky one.

 

I'll never waste another minute

Of my beautiful precious life,

Working for someone......

 

I am convinced my tired old soul

can take another time around.

So I can chase my dreams..........

They are so elusive.

 

I always knew the folly

Of the American dream

I think.

 

I tried to live it right

but I could never get past...

The stink.

 

Call me a loser, or a failure if you like.

I will not be sad or angry.

For this I know.......

 

Some day I will be there,

A day or two from my death.

I am sure I will reflect on the times of my life

good and bad.

 

I may have to go through more hell,

To get to where I am going.

But I reckon when that day comes.........

I won't be sad.

 

I will be laughing..........

 

So I wonder if I am right?

My road is not for everyone I know.

But don't count me out as wasted life.

For that could not be true.

 

I am a drifter and a poet.

I need to have a view askew,

Without my self-induced miseries.

I would have nothing to share......

Hi Tony - I find it difficult to tell on this site when things have been posted. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I haven't read this one, I know I haven't. It's a moving piece, I know exactly where you're coming from. You sound happy doing what you're doing so just carry on and you will indeed be satisfied at the end!

We all have to find what satisfies us. For you, it is simply- being free to do as you please, go where you want to go? I think so.
It's very true that a writer, or one with the soul of a writer, who has not gone through anything, has nothing of which to write, or to draw from.
I'm one of those annoying people- what makes me happy is to scrape by while going a bit against the grain, and helping others to see that what they thought was important- wasn't. :) I love working in education, because the most wonderful things we can teach aren't learned in any book they have in school.
Carry on, Tony. I love your sense of self and your happiness, just as things are. And here I thought that only in other countries, like India, we could find one who looks at life as it is...
Then again, you did have to move to Mexico. ;)

Speechless! You show a hidden message that wasn't hidden! Passion and sweat with into this piece I think!.. I'm so thankful to have you as my friend! To know you didn't think your life as waste, like some poeple might say! I'm proud of you. I have always been thankful for the times you wrote reviews for me, But this was amazingly brilliant in my mind. The way it flowed off my lips. This took me sec to hold myself up!
