Chapter 3: Fire Drills

The first day of the road trip from Hell.

2:03 AM
I swear, I am going to kill them. We stopped the car to sleep around 1:00, and I fell asleep in the back almost immediately. But not for long.
I have just woken up to the sound of heavy metal. The boys cranked up the car radio, and now they’re singing along to Back In Black, which starts with a LOUD guitar chord, right at the beginning. Zeke, Spencer, and Logan are sitting on the hood of the car. We parked on the top of Blueberry Hill, which is on the outskirts of Kingstown, the city second closest to Rosewood.
They decided that, since we have three weeks to get to Freeing at back, we’re going to take the longest possible route. When I asked why, Zeke said, “Because it’s fun!”
Fun my a*s. If we were having fun, we’d be at home, in the air conditioning, playing video games and watching old sci-fi movies.
7:34 AM
Back on the road. I got the guys to go back to sleep around 3:45, and they decided that it’s time to hit the road again. We’re currently driving around Cottington, looking for a place to eat breakfast.
Honestly. If I hadn’t been in such a rush to pack (thanks to Logan), I’d have grabbed my cell phone and called Sabrina, my best friend, by now. I’m sure she and her older sister Carol would’ve come out to save me. I wouldn't call Mom and Dad, though. I mean, yeah, they’d call a friend and have them rescue me. Plus, Logan would get grounded, which would be AWESOME.
But, knowing my parents, somehow, somehow, I’d get in trouble, too. They can be so unreasonable.
8:15 AM
Finally found a restaurant we could all agree on. Allie’s Country Diner. They have a nice menu. Well, to be honest, broken glass would taste good right now, since I haven’t eaten since the popcorn I had before we left.
11:00 AM
That was actually pretty fun. Allie’s had an old jukebox, and an area for dancing. Spencer lent me a quarter so I could put on some music, then we all danced. Zeke, Spencer, and Logan all took turns dancing with me. Logan spun me around so much, I was almost sick.
The omelet I ordered was good, and the chocolate milkshake was even better! Logan may not be as sensible as Mom and Dad, but he can definitely be a lot more fun.
2:35 PM
Great. Just great. Fan-freaking-tastic.
At every red light, I have been forced to participate in “fire drills”, where everyone switches seats. Even the driver. Each of the guys have drove now, and they tried to force me, too.
Spencer’s driving is the calmest. No running over raccoons, no almost falling out of the car when we go over  a speed bump, and no almost having to outdrive the cops.
Zeke is the fastest. I think we might have been going faster than is legal anywhere in about 17 states.
And Logan is the craziest. He goes out of his way to find every speed bump in town, makes sharp turns, and purposely goes down abandoned roads.
Kill me now.
