A Chapter by Norma M Sutton

While traveling along a lonely road
Women five dark hair and eyes I met
We chatted quietly for a while
With souls intertwining we sat

When each of us our rest was done
We parted our own way
to go
With lonely longing I stepped
Wearily into my truck

Watching in surprise
When the youngest one
Walked the oldest to my ride
Without a word her case in the bed she set

Waving the youngest stepped inside
Widely smiling her delight
With joyful exuberance she bounced upon the seat
Wondering I pulled in behind and followed

Wide road became the well worn trail
Wonderful the path we climbed
Washed in brightest sun
With tree lined shadows cooling

Wondering at the setting sun
We stopped and looked with longing
Wine stained skies and spicy winds
Wound around us a purring cat

When to travel on we sought
Wagons our rides had become
Weary of adult ways
Wheels of childhood days

Western flyer
Washed in red
With baggage stored on top
Waiting for youthful hands

Wisdom had begun this road
World of woe we succumbed
We left behind weary worries
Washed and grey and cold

World of joys
Waited aglow
Whispered words of welcome
Washing all sorrow away

Welcome home my daughters
Welcome home my child
Welcome home you've traveled long
Welcome stay awhile
