Praying Mantis

Praying Mantis

A Poem by Norma M Sutton

Head of green turns to me
Bubble round eyes
Follow me

Body of brown and green
Hard to see
Amongst the green sea

High above her egg
She stands a spartan watch
Waiting for the coming change

Devil's horse is on watch
Legs outstretched beckoning
That last and fatal hug

Eye to eye we
Watch and wait
For the other to move

On my route at work I have seen many of them lately. I know they are good for the environment but they are so creeping looking, like tiny aliens. A fun and creative piece that fits them well.
