Stage.

Stage.

A Poem by Taylor Ann

The spotlight on me,

Life is a stage

And I perform.

Perfect hair

Perfect makeup

Perfect clothes

Perfect words

Perfect thoughts.

But too soon the show ends.

Curtains close,

Spotlight dims,

and I'm all that's left.

The perfect hair

is combed out.

The perfect makeup

streaming down my cheeks.

The perfect clothes

being shed.

The perfect words

becoming mute.

The perfect thoughts

changing

into thoughts not so perfect.

Behind the scenes,

I am unlike my character,

So true.

The lies,

the faults,

Hiding behind the lights,

afraid of the attention.

Who am I really?

Well that's a question not

my character would ask.

For if I knew,

I wouldn't study the lines,

I wouldn't sing out with the piano's cue,

I wouldn't even step up,

but I do.

Who am I?
Well that's a question not

my character would ask.

Author's Note

Taylor Ann
It's hard for me to open up to people. I don't like people thinking I'm anything less than happy, anything less than the smile that's on my face. And once someone gives me the opportunity to open up, I shut down. It's terrible.
I wish I could be myself,
if I even knew who that person was.

Enjoy.

This is a beautifully done piece, both haunting and lyrical in its stanzas. I really love it.

I can sympathize with this, and your note at the bottom. I'm not alone! Thanks :)
