A (Belated) Final Good-bye To A (Once?) Friend

A (Belated) Final Good-bye To A (Once?) Friend

A Poem by Tessa Melendez
"

A sort of part 2 to "An Apology to My Angel" and "Letting Go".

"
In the Beginning...
You were just the boy in the green trunks
I never thought you'd become anything much
I thought you'd be like the others,
Making it end with feelings I had to smother

Later On...
Laying side-by-side,
Learning to fly,
We learn each others' names
My heartbeat difficult to tame.

As Days Passed...
You learned about me,
I never learned about you
It surprised me that I never could see...
That you wanted me too

Each Day...
We met at the same spot
We laughed and we talked,
Hugging each other closely,
Holding on longer and longer

Until...

One night...
The hug good-bye no longer felt shy
My heart took over
And moved us forward
The hug became a kiss good-bye

Now...
Everything has crashed and burned
There are no more good-bye hugs
No more meetings or talks
I look at us and see us at a point of no return

And it is once again...my fault

Now...
I look at you and remember your sweet perfection
No demand for anything sexual
You were all warm, relaxing, sweetness
Your only desire was for affection kept secret

Now...
You look at me and keep walking
I've given up my efforts at amends
Your actions do enough talking
I wish this hatred would end

Now...
I've been missing the us from before
I don't want to feel this wall between us anymore
I wish I could talk to you again
Like we did back then

But...I don't deserve that
I destroyed us.  I'm that scared and stupid.  I'm that weak... My point is: I never got to say my last good-bye so... this is my belated, final good-bye.

It is hard to have someone close but not close enough, sometimes when someone's feelings misunderstood then unmeasurable actions come to the surface. Well written!

You are welcome.
Sorrow at what once was, but no longer is, beautifully captured. Regretting what has come between them, to final acceptance that it is what it must be, despite the pain. Poignant, heart felt words, beautifully penned.
