128 Days

128 Days

A Poem by Shannon Miller

Bliss and freedom
Laughter and peace
The first time I felt love
Truly, purely, unconditionally
A whole world
I’d never known

Opened my heart
Let you see what
No one ever saw
Gave you everything
I had to give
And I thought you did the same

Touched me in ways
I’d never been touched
Showed me things
Now one else did
Let me see your soul
Let me believe we had time

Brought me joy for the future
Made plans to do things
I wouldn’t have wanted to do
With anyone else
New experiences
That meant the world

Opened my soul with your words
Opened my heart with your touch
Showed me what love is
Demonstrated grace and kindness
Acted so selflessly
Gave me all I wanted

Then you took it away
Left me alone
With the ghost of your kiss
Missing a future
I thought we would have
A future with love

I wanted to fight for you
For us and our future
But you weren’t as strong
As I thought you were
Weren’t willing
To give me your all

Now it’s broken
Beyond what we can fix
I’m left alone with the pieces
The dreams and the hopes
A life I thought I would have
With you by my side

128 days that
I can never forget
128 days that
I can never get back
