It's Funny

It's Funny

A Poem by The Purple Kazoo
"

sometimes you don't know what you're looking at, even when it's right in front of your face.

"

how you are somewhere inside

al-most-ev-er-y memory

in my stockpile since kindergarten

never a lead role—

always stuck as understudy

or maybe, with luck,

supporting actress.

It’s funny

I couldn’t see past

your anime hair

your dark clothes

your pale skin

for so many days.

now that it’s just us

between a luxury carpet of soft grass

(cold mud squishing between our bare toes)

and an ebony night sky, lit up with pinpricks

(giggling over the spelling of Cassiopeia)

I think I see you.

Author's Note

The Purple Kazoo
rough idea, a.k.a. not polished at all; i basically wrote it in my head while i was walking around. so any great or not-so-great ideas are welcome.

I love it. I see how you can say it's not polished, but it's still a lovely piece of work. I think I like the unpolished aspect of it the best. It's very nostalgic to me, for some reason -- may not have been your intention but it just makes me remember something I've experienced, or maybe long for a memory that I don't even have... the imagery is phenomenal.

Fav lines:

Overall a very lovely piece. if you edit it, don't edit too much.
