The Sleep of an Artist

The Sleep of an Artist

A Poem by Thomas W Case

"
To sleep the sleep of
an artist is
the best sleep ever.
All the foes lie vanquished,
and I paint words with
their blood.
All the letters spent on
the paper in
ejaculatory fashion,
like sperm to the egg.
There is no fodder from
dreams to be marshaled,
just the birth of my
creation,
when I
awake.

Cleverly created via eyes and mind as we look for the visual via the electric words, sir. You obviously frame your paintings with puns - clever ones, with a dab of this and a streak of that. I planned to mention the sperm. paper and egg but has been said so well by Vol! Great poem, finely laid and memorable!

i am both poet and artist, and yes the sleep of an artist is more peaceful unless your name is Dali of course , his paintings give me nightmares..
Sperm and eggs , wouldn't want to try and paint them🤣

Excellent, sir!
I LOVE the metaphor of words as sperm and paper as egg! Brilliant!

Again, creatively naughty, Thomas. The cheeky description is certainly original! I’d imagine the artist would remain tormented until his creation has been fully conceived. Only then would good sleep come easily. I enjoyed this one.

Thank you so much Felicia.
Well, I do enjoy it when my words come out in an ejaculatory manner. Sometimes, though, getting it up is really difficult.

Thanks, John, I relate.
Very nice work. In sleep a writer gets his best inspirations.
