Cracked Palms

Cracked Palms

A Poem by Tristan E

let me tell you-
and take my honest word-
she is perfect, i swear it
and they say that love is blind
but my eyes have been opened
mountains would move for her
if she asked them to
treacherous waves would bow to her
if she set foot on the sand
and she is humble
humble like the grass and the clouds in the sky
and she does not know her worth

i, on the other hand
i have nothing

when i try to explain everything she is to her-
her strength, her power,
and still, her gentle touch-
she denies me
she asks me what i have

i hold my heart in my hands
and offer it up in a second
i am fragile but i do not care
this is what i tell her

she disagrees with me
usually when someone does this
i deny them
but i listen to her

she says my voice is sand paper
rough but with good intentions
i smooth things out
she says i am patient like the earth
and all i do is build things up
even if it breaks me
even if it damages me
i am the foundation
she says i am a river
sometimes gentle
but quick and decisive if need be

let me tell you-
let me offer my heart to you-
when i say that in that moment
she became my world

The flow of the poem was good.
