The Lone LetterA Poem by Vinayak Satheesh
Paper rolls burning
Smoke rising Letters scampering That's all I could see Breathe in the smoke Said someone I did Cough it out Said someone I did But I still couldn't see anything else The letters were dying One by one Through the flames Did I look Souls of letters Did I see The souls weren't happy The flames died out Leaving ash behind Four letters too remained Three from one roll One from the other The lone letter looked scared The three looked scary The lone letter ran Up my hand To my face Into my half-open mouth Cough it out Said someone I did The letter rode on a droplet The three were obliterated Ash flew here and there The lone letter remained Crush it Said someone I didn't The letter looked into my eyes Even though it had no eyes It was just for a moment Then it ran Up my hand To my face Into my nose It went up and up I went up and up I saw the worlds I had known I saw the ones I hadn't A kaleidoscope Blank, the next moment Someone had bashed in my head Final sound:someone screaming Final image:the lone letter flying off © 2021 Vinayak Satheesh |
