(26) Under The Oak Tree

(26) Under The Oak Tree

A Poem by Chris Smith Welshpoetcs

Two lovers promised each other
Soon they would be apart from one another
Promised no matter how long they were apart
Promised to meet and keep each others heart

Five years have now passed by
He hopes the promise will never be a lie
He is waiting, always waiting patiently
He waits for her under the oak tree

Each year he returns here every time
Remembering a love in its prime
Maybe this year she will be here
Maybe this year she will be near

An old man sits alone, dreaming of the past
An old man wishing that love could last
A promise was made, he still waits patiently
Every year you can find him under the oak tree

It seems that forever can be a long time, and love sometimes won't wait! Sad reality, when we can't let go of love that wasn't meant to be.

Nice Write!

Always waiting for that moment of heaven from times long passed, this poem has such a sad, yet beautiful theme, waiting for that lost love we never really forget. It's so easy to get caught in those memories of reminiscence, because they do carry such a transcendental beauty of first true love, it's like the closest we can get to heaven on earth. Unfortunately time never stops, and our bodies grow old with the winds of change, while our greater hearts remain somewhere else.
