The Old Lady's Purse

The Old Lady's Purse

A Poem by MoonShine

I smiled at the child who was helping the old lady cross the road
Little did I know, that he would snatched her purse as his reward
I watched as the old lady helplessly chased after the thief
And I felt my smile turning into a look of disbelief
I ran over to the lady to see if she was okay
And to my relief found her only out of breath
“Are you alright Ms?” I asked to make sure
She smiled and said “I’ll endure”
But she told me she no longer had money to buy her groceries
And asked if she could borrow from me, some money
I opened my wallet and handed her quite a bit of cash
And she in turn gave me a piece of paper with her name and number
I asked to help her with her groceries and it’s encumber
She declined telling me that I didn’t need to bother
And we went our separate ways
The old lady to the market, and I to the cafe
Later that day, sipping on my coffee,
I walked down the sidewalk
And to my surprise saw the child, who snatched the old lady’s purse

He was talking to what seemed like a group of homeless
And he carried the purse, which he held looking shameless
At first I thought of confronting the child and having him in custody
Then to my surprise, I saw him hand the purse to an old lady
An old lady who was giving out her groceries
I stood confused, knowing that I have fallen into a trick
But I felt myself smile
Glad that the purse had gone back to its rightful owner

Huh! I was not expecting that. What an interesting story -- very easy to read. I like this idea.
