Wondering Mind
A plant commonly found on the island of Sardinia was used in ritual killings of the old in pre-Roman times, the potion causes the face to smile after death- hence "sardonic smile" was used by Homer.

perhaps the smile indicates defiance. it is ironic that death brings a smile to the one that has been put to death. this is valuable information.
