At Night i Am Free

At Night i Am Free

A Story by wordman
"

a story about a little boy in a wheel chair

"

By day

in a wheel chair

but at night I am free

At night

as I lay sleeping

my soul is free

I can see myself running and playing

I see my self playing ball

as I come up to bat the crowd roars

and I don`t feel the pain anymore

I swing the bat

and I hit the ball

I watch as it clears the fence

the crowd is up on there feet

cheering for me

As I run the bases

they slap my hand

and I feel no pain

But the morning light comes

and I realize it was just a dream

an escape from reality

an adventure for me

You see I am crippled

only at night I can be free...

By day

in a wheel chair

'At Night i Am Free'
wordman,
I see this was an entry into charity anthology contest and it won first place, Congratulations. That is wonderful. My thoughts on your poem: The ability of humanity to hope for more, to imagine beauty and strength where it is lacking was the incredible message here. Your poem reminded me to enjoy and love others more and to have thankfulness in my heart. Your boy in a wheel chair found release from his reality of pain in his dreams and showed courage and the desire to find wholeness.
lovely work and blessings,
kathy

Very surreal piece of writing I know a young man with cerebral palsy and he often talks about his freedom in his sleep

Hi Ron :) a very touching write you have here. A dream is only real as long as you're asleep...and "reality? Only real as long as you're awake. Parallel worlds...

Now that is a glass half full kind of a poem. That poem could be a backdrop to a small adventure.

WOW....wonderful ink! Really places one right in the shoes of someone who is disabled. And I didn't feel like doing one of my favorite things today - running. Told myself it was too hot. Reading a poem like this makes me think twice about never making excuses to exercise. I am so grateful that I have legs to run free. This poem makes me more so.
