I DID

I DID

A Poem by XO Vee

Once I looked into your eyes
I knew what would come of
Us, at least I thought I did
Until I messed up or so I thought
I did, You told me it was my
Fault, you told me I was wrong
And I believed you, I thought
it was me, I burned dinner
I fell asleep before you came
home, I allowed my friends to
talk bad about you, I gave you
an attitude, I rolled my eyes
I talked back, I shed a tear in
front of company, I ripped the
dress, and I did it on purpose
I thought it was my fault, and
I searched for ways to make it
better, and found the perfect
Way, It wasn't me it was you!

You only saw the bad never
the why, why was dinner
over cooked, why I fell
asleep, why my friends
talked bad about you,
why i gave you an attitude
why i rolled my eyes, talked
back, shed that tear in front
of company, ripped that dress

I don't owe you anything but
i want it for myself, so i'll
fill you in, dinner was over
cooked because your side piece
called, told me what you were
doing at those late meetings
i fell asleep after you called
me on our anniversary to tell
me you caught a late flight
you'd be back in a week,
i love you too! my friends
talked bad because they only
saw bad, you never gave them
a good thing to go by. i gave
you an attitude because i
wanted out but also i
wanted your attention
i rolled my eyes hoping you'd
see, hoping you'd yell at me
because again the stupid part
of me still wanted you to pay
attention, talked back to make
conversation, shed that tear in
front of company because she
was sitting at the table looking
at me judging, judging me like
i meant nothing like a peasant
asked to join a high class dinner
not a wife with her husband

Oh yeah and that dress
I was wrong
I did rip that dress
I ripped it
I did
To signify
To show you
To demonstrate
How a boss leaves a man
That I once thought was a man
and now i only see a pig
I see trash!

This carries a strong message of hope. There's a certain amount of power that comes with letting go of the thing or person that hurts you, even if it's uncertain. It can be scary to let that thing go when it's "comfortable" or after you've put so much work into making it better. I'm glad the dinner was burnt. I'm glad the dress is ruined! I'm glad your stupid dinner friends don't like me! And I'm glad you're gone!!! As you can see, I've now become the narrator... Good job! :)

This symbolizes empowerment for me. There is so much intensity packed into this piece. I find myself wanting the next chapter as this story rolls out.
Well done.

I really like the way you broke this poem down into sections. It lured me in and by the third stanza I was like dang haha I was hooked and was laughing because how clean you put it together. Very impressive. Very strong. Very Powerful.

I loved this poem. Only if more people were strong willed. I hope this inspires more people to stand up for themselves if they need to. Great write.

I love this poem.. full of positivism, since the female protagonist is strong enough to contain her self-respect and self-esteem by putting herself and her feelings at priority. Very rarely these qualities are seen in women, rather most of the women start believing in what their partners tell me.

Nice choice of the words and loved the following lines:

"To show you
To demonstrate
How a boss leaves a man
That I once thought was a man
and now i only see a pig
I see trash!"

Still believing not all men are same!

I hate when you're in a relationship and your significant other points out every mistake you make. When really it's always them. This poem is so powerful, I'm sure many can relate. You bring out a strong message and the way you write is just wow.

So expressive , it draws you in because it plays with you psych, the dress, the guilt, the realization of fault....very clever!

The symbolism of the dress stands out this poem. It used to define who you were and now you shred it to make a statement that you are not that person anymore. This piece packs a lot of emptions, and it is well written and throughout. Thank you for sharing.
